In a letter dated May 4, Bishop David Zubik informed parishioners of St. Ferdinand, St. Gregory and Holy Redeemer parishes that Father James Young had been placed on administrative leave “pending an investigation of inappropriate contact with adult women.”
While on administrative leave, Father Young “is not allowed to engage in public ministry at your parish or any place else. He cannot administer the sacraments, dress in clerical attire or identify himself as a priest,” the letter said.
The Independent Review Board will review the allegation and advise Bishop Zubik regarding Father Young’s suitability for ministry.
“If a determination is made that Father Young did what he is accused of, those restrictions will become permanent,” said the bishop’s letter. “If it is determined that the allegation is unfounded, all that is possible will be done to restore Father Young’s reputation and return him to ministry.”
The letter concluded by asking everyone to pray for the people who brought the allegation, for Father Young and for all involved in making a determination in the matter.
