The next three-day cycle of Ember Days will be March 13, 15 and 16 for the Year of Repentance in light of the scandal of child sexual abuse.
Special observances are called for on Ember Days: four sets of three days throughout the year that were traditionally set aside for prayer and fasting. These days were scheduled near the change of seasons.
Bishop David Zubik asked that on each of the cycles, clergy of the diocese fast and abstain from meat and make a Holy Hour. A Holy Hour is an hour spent in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, the real presence of Christ. All Catholics are invited to join in.
The last remaining Ember Days during the Year of Repentance will be June 12, 14 and 15.
