GIANT FLEA MARKET
The calendar section in the Aug. 10 issue of the Pittsburgh Catholic did not list St. Mary of the Assumption Parish, 2510 Middle Road in Glenshaw, as the location for a giant flea market Friday, Aug. 17, through Sunday, Aug. 19. Market begins Friday with a $5 early entry at 7 a.m., then opens for free admission from 8 a.m.-1 p.m., and again from 5-8 p.m. Flash sales Saturday, Aug. 18, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m., with half-price sale from 5-8 p.m. A $5 bag sale will be Sunday, Aug. 19, from 8 a.m.-noon. The 10,000 square feet of new and used merchandise includes collectibles, antiques, jewelry, furniture, fine china, toys and more. Also featuring snacks, bake sale and Vera Bradley raffle.
St. Sylvester Parish, 3754 Brownsville Road in Brentwood will hold its annual festival Monday-Saturday, Aug. 20-25, 7-10 p.m. (7-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday). Attractions include rides, bingo, bake sale, raffles, flea market, progressive 50/50 raffle and Chinese auction. Food menu features funnel cakes, pizza, ice cream, hamburgers, hot dogs and more.
CONCERT ON LAWN
Public is invited to bring chair and dance shoes to St. John Fisher Parish in Churchill on Friday, Aug. 24, when Mary Ann Mangini, with special guest Johnny Angel of Johnny Angel and the Halos, present a concert on the lawn, starting at 7 p.m. Free concert, with good-will donation accepted, will feature favorite songs from 1950s-1970s. FOOD TRUCK FESTIVAL
Fish or chicken wraps, gourmet pizza made to order, gyros and traditional American barbecue are some of the food available at a super food truck festival at St. Catherine of Sweden Parish in Hampton Township on Saturday, Sept. 1, from 5-9 p.m. Attractions include outdoor games, live music from Second Breakfast, magic show, face painting and more. Food trucks include Mission Maui, Bado’s Pizza, Road Dogs, Revival Chili, Vagabond Taco, Brisketburg, Brusters Ice Cream, Pittsburgh Po’Boy, Mazzotta Winery and more. Festival provides opportunity for parish to celebrate its 75th anniversary and say farewell to Father Steven Neff. Mass will be celebrated at 4 p.m., with Father Frederick Cain as celebrant.
POLISH LANGUAGE CLASS
The Polish Cultural Council is offering Polish language classes at 10 a.m. Saturdays, Sept. 8 through May, at the Stephen Foster Community Center, 286 Main St. in Pittsburgh’s Lawrenceville neighborhood. Beginner level is for students with no previous knowledge of the Polish language, and provides basic speaking, writing and reading skills. Advanced level is for students with some knowledge, and focuses on building vocabulary. Cost is $180 for individuals and $210 for family. Cost for PCC members is $150 for individual, $180 for family. “Fulfilled: Uncovering the Biblical Foundations of Catholicism” is being offered for eight weeks at SS. Simon and Jude Parish in Scott Township from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 6-Oct. 27. Some of the topics to be discussed include how Jesus fulfills the Old Testament, the tabernacle’s design and function, and more. The Community Center of St. Athanasius Parish in West View is offering classes in “All Things Italian,” including customs, culture and language. Classes are 6:30-8:30 p.m. for 10 weeks.
