World Day of Sick Mass at UPMC Mercy

Saturday, March 18, 2017 - Updated: 4:00 am

Bishop William Waltersheid, auxiliary bishop of Pittsburgh, celebrated the 25th Annual World Day of the Sick Mass Feb. 7 at UPMC Mercy in Pittsburgh's Uptown neighborhood.

The liturgy in the Holy Family Chapel occurred on the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, and Pope Francis extended a blessing to all those who are ill and the people who care for them.

This marked the 25th anniversary of the day, which is meant to recognize and honor those who work in health care while praying for the alleviation of human suffering around the world.

UPMC Mercy patients, visitors, physicians, nurses and other caregivers attended.
